How long have you been teaching?

Four years

What makes HA special to you?

The overwhelming amount of passion prevalent throughout the faculty dedicated to providing an equitable and inclusive education for a diverse student body.

Teaching Philosophy

For me teaching is about providing EVERY student with the skills and tools necessary to go above and beyond what is covered in the classroom. By this I mean that students are able to use critical thinking skills in authentic settings, that they are active in community service and that they possess a deeper sense of identity. As an educator it is my obligation to engage students on various levels and with various methods to insure that I am meeting the needs of all students.

Favorite Student Story

During my student teaching experience at Highlands Ranch High School I administered a pre-assessment in government. One of the questions asked was who represented Colorado’s 6th Congressional District, a question that we had briefly discussed earlier. While some got the question right by answering Tom Tancredo, many took a stab and answered with Tom Martino. Hey, at least they got the “Tom” correct. Another innocent answer to an assessment involved a sixth grader who wrote that Isaac Newton was the inventor of gravity. I had to ruminate for a moment over what life must have been like prior to Sir Isaac.
