I am truly amazed by Highline Academy’s dedication to the students in all aspects. The diversity and strong community here foster the perfect environment for lifelong learning for students and adults alike.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that it is essential to create lifelong learners. All students come to us at different levels and with different needs: my responsibility as a teacher is to guide them to gain true mastery and understanding that they can apply. It is necessary that students go beyond the pencil and paper and actually delve into their learning through application and investigation. With a diverse, equitable, and safe environment this lifelong learning is possible.

Favorite Student Story

I had an 8^th grader in my class who had always struggled with math. I remember the day he decided to be on his own team against the entire class for a dry erase board race. He not only demonstrated his understanding, but also showed tremendous growth in his behavior. I called home that night and his father, after questioning if I had the right number, was in tears. The father took his son out for ice cream to celebrate that night, and he never forgot it. Throughout the year he would do everything possible to earn a call home (including improving his grade from failing to an A) and he demonstrated growth in all other classes as well. It was amazing to see a child grow so much and with such a simple event. I will always cherish his father for acting immediately and showing his support.
