How long have you been teaching?

This year begins five.

What makes HA special to you?

Highline is a second home to me and my two youngest children.  As a teacher I am able to connect to students and their families and learn about their culture, goals and aspirations, and they are able to learn about mine.  We share a lot of time together which allows us the opportunity to cultivate relationships.  My colleagues are dedicated, caring, positive, loving and continuously working together which inspires me to be my best self.  After many years of experience in other careers, staying at home to raise my children, owning a business, caring for senior parents, I find that Highline Academy is an amazing, supportive school that goes above and beyond for everyone in every walk of life.  As a parent, Highline offers a rigorous curriculum that challenges my children to strive for higher order thinking.  It is rich with diversity and offers enrichment programs which help enhance strong character traits.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that by inspiring passion in every student, they can achieve whatever they set out to accomplish.  The classroom is just a stepping stone for nurturing the students’ curiosity about the world, and supporting them through crucial developmental stages toward a positive self identity.

Favorite Student Story

Every day something happens that is a favorite moment.  The closest and most memorable moments to my heart are always the “aha” moments and when a student “gets it”.  Then, they thank me.  Those are always special.
