How long have you been teaching?
Three years.
What makes HA special to you?
Highline is the first and only school that I have taught at, making it unbelievably special to me. I love the blend of challenging academics and community. I love coming to work every morning knowing that I will learn as much from my students as they will learn from me.
Teaching Philosophy
Teaching is a growing experience, something that evolves based on the students in your classroom and their individual need. It is my role as a teacher to challenge each student and then support them in succeeding. The classroom should be a community, where each student feels successful and valuable.
Favorite Student Story
While many fantastic moments occur within a school building, the most memorable moments happen we were are all in a place that is new to us. This past March, the 8th grade students took their class trip and being an 8th grade homeroom teacher, I was able to go on the trip with them. While on the trip, students were asked to do a series of ropes course events, each one being both physically and emotionally challenging. I loved watching students, some of whom were best friends and others who barely interacted at all, coming together to support each other through the challenges they faced. The students felt a sense of community and accomplishment that cannot be attained at a desk.
